New US Tariffs & Our American Customers

What's Happening:

  • The US is imposing 25% tariffs (taxes) on all Canadian imports

  • Our store is set up so the impact to American customers is significantly softened

New US Tariffs Key Points & Summary:

  • Our use of Canadian dollars in our store strategically keeps our products affordable for Americans, even with new tariffs

  • Due to the changing exchange rates, Americans increasingly benefit from their stronger dollar

  • Even with tariffs, our products still work out to be cheaper than similar counterparts at US beauty retailers & brands for Americans

  • We have not raised our prices to adjust for inflation in over 5 years. This really softens the blow to American customers with the new tariffs.

The New Tariffs:

Recently, the US imposed 25% tariffs (taxes) on all Canadian imports starting Feb 4th. This means whenever an American customer purchases from a Canadian company like ours, a tax will be applied that they will need to pay the US government. This tax will be easily paid, typically online, to the US government when your package arrives.

What’s The Silver Lining?

For those unfamiliar, $1 Canadian dollar does not equal $1 US dollar.

Recent economic changes, such as these new tariffs, have caused the value of the Canadian dollar to continuously decrease, and the value of the US dollar to strengthen. For example, $68 US dollars can buy about $100 Canadian dollars worth of goods as of Feb 1st, 2025. This means the US dollar stretches very far when American customers pay for things in Canadian dollars.

Due to the way we intentionally charge for our products in Canadian dollars, American customers have been paying less for our products than ever before. This helps keep things affordable, even with the addition of the new tariffs. Not every Canadian company does this, as some will charge in US dollars.

Additionally, we also have not increased our prices in 5 years, even through inflation, which creates another beneficial buffer for the new tariffs.

(For the following examples, Canadian dollars are represented by C$, and US dollars are represented by US$)

The Strong American Dollar & Weakening Canadian Dollar:

  • One year ago, our C$21 cream blush would have cost American customers around US$16 after conversion. Now, it only costs about US$14.

Our Steady Pricing:

  • If we adjusted our prices for inflation, our C$21 blush should in theory now cost C$25, or around US$17 after conversion. But we have not. Our prices have remained steady to our customers' benefit.

These factors together significantly reduce the impact of the new tariffs imposed for any American customers shopping our products.

For Americans new to shopping with Canadian companies - this dollar conversion process is all automatic and done by your banks and credit card companies. You don’t need to do anything.

Some Practical Examples:

Example 1:

Our cream blush costs C$21. Based on the exchange rate Feb 1st 2025, American customers will pay the equivalent of about US$14. When your order arrives, you will pay the US government around US$3.50 in taxes for this one item.

This is still cheaper than the majority of cream blush products at any retailer in the USA

Example 2:

We have never adjusted our prices for inflation, to keep things affordable for our customers. Our C$21 cream blush, if price was adjusted for inflation, would now cost around C$25, or US$17 after the exchange rate. But we have kept our prices the same.

Our blush after the exchange rate + the new tariffs will cost Americans today roughly US$18. The addition of these tariffs is basically equivalent to us adjusting our prices for 5 years of inflation. Again, this is still cheaper than most comparable products in the USA.

Example 3:

Your Phytosurgence order total is C$100. This translates to about US$68 that you pay us, after automatic conversion by your bank or credit card. With the new tariff, you will pay the US government about $17 US dollars when your order arrives. In total, you'll have paid around US$85 for C$100 worth of product.

Plus, an order over C$70 gets you free US shipping too, so you save more money there.
